Tulane and Loyola to Take Part in the President’s Challenge

Loyola press release - October 29, 2018

Green Wave and Wolf Pack to take part in exhibition games in both men’s and women’s basketball

Tulane University’s Michael A. Fitts and Loyola University New Orleans’ Tania Tetlow will celebrate the start of the college basketball season next week when the two schools meet in an exhibition contest in both men’s and women’s basketball at the Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.

“The Tulane-Loyola game is an event that both institutions look forward to every season,” Tulane President Mike Fitts said. “This year’s game has a little added intrigue with my colleague and new neighbor now cheering, indeed leading, the other team!”

Fitts and Tetlow have a close relationship, as the two worked together for the past three years. Tetlow served as Tulane’s chief of staff and vice president since the fall of 2015 before moving into her current capacity as Loyola president.

“The Battle on Freret has leveled up this year and I am ready to represent,” said Loyola University New Orleans President Tania Tetlow. “Howl to the Wolf Pack.”

To add an extra incentive to the games, both Fitts and Tetlow have agreed to take part in the inaugural President’s Challenge. The challenge will focus on two parts: student attendance and on court involvement.

The winner of the student attendance portion of the challenge will be based on the student attendance at the Tulane-Loyola women’s basketball exhibition game on Tuesday, Oct. 30 and the men’s basketball exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 1.

The winner will be based on what percentage of the student enrollment attends the game. The school with the most students in attendance based on student enrollment will proudly display their logo on the losing school’s campus.

The on-court portion of the challenge will showcase Presidents Fitts and Tetlow as captains for a team of three students that will participate in a timed free throw contest at halftime during the women’s basketball exhibition game on Oct. 30. The most made free throws after the time expires will be declared the winning team.
